Thorpe Park Review

Arrived at approx 3.15PM, and just waited around till 4PM, also just as I suspected I did not have to show my season pass to get in, personally I find this quite shocking as anyone could have quite easily applied for a £2.50 ticket and got it with ease, you would have thought that with Thorpe knowing about Tickets being stolen in the post, security would have been steped up, and why bother stating on the letter that you have to show your season pass to gain entry when you clearly didnt have too, Oh well.

Anyway went straight to NI, and waited 10 mins for a front row seat. I really liked the station with its red theme and coloured lights, Also the music that is played when you exit the station is superb, It really sets the mood well for the ride. Anyway we exit the station, and dive through the Volcano Section, this is again very good with the red lights and mist and then coming out, the train is NOT BRAKED leading into the lift hill, It was amazing, and the lift is really fast(Probably the fastest lift hill I've seen on a B&M). Anyway the whole ride experience is very good indeed, The Vertical Loop is good, The Inline twist is great, and the turn after that is amazing, The 2 corkscrews are also very good as well as the 2 helix's, however I would say the ride does lose some speed when it enters the 2 corkscrews right to the end, but it doesnt really affect the ride too much, and its still very enjoyable. The Water Effects are also very nice and the jets of water at the base of the loop is random, so its pot luck if you get soaked on your legs or not

So My Overall Verdict is that It was very good, but I still slighty prefer Nemesis at Alton I think, Dont get me wrong, NI is still an excellent coaster, but I didnt feel it was quite as intense as Nemesis, I should point out though that towards the end of the day NI felt much better, it was really flying and I enjoyed it slighty more, but in the meantime NI will need to grow on me a bit more if it is to possibly beat Nemesis. I also must mention that the whole area for NI is brilliant, the attension to detail and themeing is amazing, and thorpe and Tussaurds have done a great job here, and its quite possibly one of the best themed B&M's ever :)

My overall ride count for the day was NI 3 rides,Colossus 1 ride,Vortex 2 rides,X No way out 1 ride, Ribena Rapids 1 ride, Detonator 1 ride,Flying Fish 1 ride and Depth Charge 1 ride so not too bad for the 5hrs spent at the park. As for Queue Times, NI reached 1hr 30 mins at it peak and Colossus reached 1hr but everything else that was open was about 20 mins max or less

Other Park News - I spotted Quantum Testing running towards NI but sadly it was not operational, but hopefully it will be running very soon. Eclipse is on schedule, and the base for the wheel is up(You can see some pics at the link below), rumours from staff say it should be operational for the easter period.

NI had a few brakedowns throughout the day and it was down for a good 40-50 mins once right at the end of the day, there was also some problems with the harnesses not locking/unlocking too so not a good start to the season for NI. Also Colossus had problems and went down to 1 train operation for most of the day leaving the ride with 1hr+ queues so I only managed 1 ride on it. However despite all the problems, Thorpe Park were very nice to keep these 2 rides open for a further 30 mins till 9.30PM which was nice

Also Tidal Wave was down all day, and there was no signs of life on Zodiac either, Also Detonator had a few problems with the restaints too. Also noticed that Vortex has recieved a new annoucement played before/after the ride , and the Flying Fish has recieved some rather nice new sound effects played before each ride and it seemed to be running very fast too

Hopefully I will be back at Thorpe next week if I am lucky but I sure hope that all the problems are sorted out with Colossus and NI fast otherwise there will be Chaos over the next few days, also its funny how NI ran smootly on its rehearsal day but did not run smootly on its premier day, normally you dont expect any problems with a standard B&M inverted so I wonder why it was doing this????

Anyway Some pictures can be viewed from the event at the address below,ENJOY
