Toverland Report
Toverland(6th May 2005)
Holland is a place I had wanted to visit for ages, mainly for 2 good parks I had heard so much about which was Efteling and Six Flags Holland(now Walibi World), and finally I got that chance with the European Coaster Club to visit these two parks plus Toverland and a suprise 4th park on the final day. We took Eurotunnel over to France, and then drove all the way to Holland onto our first park on the trip(Toverland) which took a long time, but finally we arrived at approx 3.45PM which only gave us about 2hrs at the park, but we were due to have an ERS on the Booster Bike which would help.
First impressions of Toverland are amazing, Its basiclly 2 huge buildings full of rides/attractions inside which is all mainly family based, The First Building houses a Indoor Coaster, lots of kiddie rides,climbing/playing equipment and water slides, the second building goes a bit more high tech by adding more Climbing/play equipment,a log ride,A powered bobsled,A funhouse and an excellent looking Rocking Tug Ride. There is also a mix of outdoor attractions too though with the main big attraction of the Booster Bike and the craziest assult course for children ever.
So the First ride we try is the indoor coaster called Boomerang which is an indoor Vekoma Kiddie Coaster, this is a suprisngly fun little ride and while it not much to good at,it does give out a good ride, The 2 overbanked turns add a good element to the ride, and we are treated to an end helix too which I thought was good for a kiddie coaster, Its not hugely impressive, but it does the job well, and the kids enjoyed it anyway.
Moving onto the second building, we go and ride the Log Ride, this is quite a unique ride for 2 reasons, firstly it has a short backwards drop, and to turn the boats around going up the second big lift hills, the boats are turned on the lift hill itself, then at the top of the second lift hill, the boat is turned 1 and a half turns before going forwards down the drop, Its a great element as it scares you into thinking you actually go down backwards and it does work because if you've never been to the park before, the final drop is hidden from you outside as you start the ride inside, certaintly a very unique log ride.
The Powered Bobsled was up next, these types of rides are fantastic and I only wish there was more of them around the world, basiclly you sit in your car, and you power your car around the track yourself by using the lever so its upto you if you choose to go fast or slow around the track, after trying out 2 of these ride types in Germany, I knew what to expect, and this one ranks in second out of the 3 I've ridden, It starts with a nice tunnel section which goes into a helix and heads outdoors, after doing a few more wild turns and straight sections, we end by going back indoors and ending with a great helix, very good fun indeed. Next up was the Fun House, Nothing special in here to note, just the usual moving flatforms, spinning discs, revolving tunnel etc, but still fun I guess.
After 2hrs spent in the park, it was time for an quick bonus ERS on the Powered Bob, and then an ERS on the Booster Bike, after resisting the chance to try this on arrival, I was looking forward to riding it. I tryed the back seat first and so got strapped in ready to ride, riding it felt slighty uncomfortable in a certain area on the body, but wasnt extreme in order not to enjoy it. Finally we're off, and get ready for the launch, Its not a particually thrilling launch, but its fast enough to enjoy it I guess, after a bunny hop hill, we go into an overbanked turn which seemed rather slow, but just makes it, afterwards we get treated to a twists and turns ready for a banked turn leading into the final bunny hop hills and into the brake run. Final Verdict was good, and I think it was very enjoyable and fits in well to the style of the park(after all, the park is mainly for families only) I think I took 7-8 rides overall all in different positions and enjoyed it probably more in the back.
At about 7.45PM-8PM, It was time to leave, Toverland is a fantastic concept for a park and I hope more of these types of park spring up more around the world, I wish one of these could be done in the UK, but I think H&S would have a field day if they saw some of the things we saw, For example, when entering and looking to your left, there is this steep climbing thing that you climb up, and then slide down on, but the crazy thing is, this is something for everyone(even adults,YEP there are no rules saying you cant) You've only got to be an adult climbing up,slipping and then crushing a little kid behind you which is why this and other things wouldnt be allowed in the UK.
